REHABILITATION & MAINTENANCE

Rehabilitation and maintenance of the Voltzberg field station

The Central Suriname Nature Reserve (CSNR), covering 1.6 million hectares, was established in 1998. The CSNR covers part of the traditional habitat of the Kwinti people. The reserve consists of an ecotourism resort (Raleighvallen) and a field station for research and training purposes around Voltzberg.

The Foundation for the Reconstruction of Kaaimanston and Surroundings (WOKO), in collaboration with WPS, renovated the field station at Voltzberg in 2024 after it had become overgrown with vegetation during the Covid pandemic. Since 2025, the Ateles Project team has regularly used the field station as a base for research on spider monkeys in the area.
